Originally known as Indian Rocks South Shore, this quiet beach town is one of the oldest and smallest beach communities with the longest name. It was named Indian Rocks Beach, South Shore because the tiny community wanted a separate identity from the City of Indian Rocks Beach. The Town averages only a block in width between the Gulf of Mexico and by an area known as The Narrows.

It was originally an Indian campsite and got its name from the large red rocks found along its shoreline. Its first "settlers" were a pair of Robinson Crusoe-Type brothers named Cochran. In 1883 four Cedar Key speculators sailing to St. Petersburg, stopped to explore the Island. They were fascinated by the Island's possibilities for future development and bought it from the Cochran Brothers for a nominal sum. It is said the brothers bartered their Island "for little more than a string of beads and $25.00, figuratively speaking, like the Indians of Manhattan". The region soon became a popular residential and vacation area for many prominent Tampans such as the McKay family. (Tampa Tribune)

Until a wooden turn bridge was built in 1916, a ferryboat transported pedestrians to the Island, and a barge carried horses, buggies and a few automobiles to the summer resort. In 1905 the Railroad ran a spur line from the mainland to the beach and a hotel was built, adding to the Island's popularity. The railroad spur was abandoned later, but the community continued to grow especially during the Post-World War II building boom. Eventually in 1973 the name was officially changed to the more manageable Indian Shores. Presently the town's residential quality and its assortment of shops and restaurants help visitors feel right at home and is popular from snowbirds to seabirds. Favorite local spots are the eccentric Indian Shores Coffee Company and the popular Salt Rock Grill.

April 2018 - The location is idyllic and the accommodations perfect for a couple. Friendly staff, immediate access to the beach, use of tables, chairs, fire pit, etc., all made for a wonderful beach stay. Nice sized kitchen along with comfortable bedroom and living room.

March 2018 - We really had a great experience. We arrived 4 hrs before the lock would allow the door to open. The owners saw us looking around and came by and introduced themselves and let us in early. They made sure we understood where everything was and to where they would be should we need anything. The beach is literally right out the door. Not in a crowded area. The property has kayaks, bikes, new grilles, laundry at no cost, ice and plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas included. Our unit, which they are all similar, had a very comfortable bed, nice large TVs in bedroom and living room, beach themed decor, clean full bathroom, nice small kitchen with granite tops and a pullout couch as well. This was exactly what we were looking for got our stress free beach getaway. I would definitely recommend and if we go back to Tampa, I would certainly stay at beach bungalows again. Great place!

February 2018 - My husband and I stayed in Feb 2018. The unit was clean and ready for us. The bed was comfortable. It is a small unit , perfect for a couple and we spent most of our time outside on the beach. There were beach chairs and umbrellas for us to use. An outside cooler and free ice. I would definitely recommend this property.

January 2018 - We will be back!!!

November 2017 - This unit was super clean and beautifully decorated. All communications with the property owners went very smoothly and any questions I had were timely answered. Being on the first floor, it was very nice to walk out your door and immediately be on the beach. For those who care about these things like I do, I found the water pressure for the shower perfect and the tub drained well. The unit is a little small and I believe more than 2 people would find it a little cramped, but for my husband and myself, it was the perfect size. The fact that chairs and umbrellas for the beach were provided is a huge plus! The only thing I would note is that the central heating and air is very loud. It would wake me at night when coming on, but I have no trouble returning to sleep so it wasn't an issue for me or my husband. However, those who are light sleepers might find it annoying. Other than it being loud, it worked perfectly keeping the room cool.

October 2017 - My wife, son and I rented Bungalow Beach Place 1 and 2 for three nights after attending a wedding. The owners were there at the time, and were most accommodating. The eight ocean front units have all recently been completely redecorated. With the exception of BBP 9, which is a nice 2-bedroom unit in back of the main building, the units are rather small but clean and well laid out, and can accommodate 2 adults and perhaps one or two small children quite nicely. Parking at BBP is exceptionally spacious for the area, with each unit having a designated parking place. Just across the street, there are two good small restaurants that offer dine in or carry out service. Everything was conveniently at hand, including a stash of firewood for the fire pit on the beach, so one need not venture far unless they are so inclined. When we have the opportunity to get back to Indian Shores, I would like to stay at BBP awhile longer, perhaps for a month or two to escape the Northern winter.

September 2017 - Bungalow Beach Place was absolutely amazing. Our bungalow was clean and the decor is beach chique. The location was perfect with nice restaurants and cute cafes within a few miles from us. We loved the beach view from the patio and the direct access to the water. The sunsets were amazing which we had front row seating to by the fire pit. It was positively perfect and we will definitely be back.

May 2017 - I absolutely LOVE this vacation spot. The property is amazing and no detail has been left untouched. The units are modern, cozy, comfortable, and inspiring. The location is practical, as well. The amenities are endless with the fire pit, outdoor lighting, beach chairs/umbrellas, kayaks, etc. Our family truly had the most wonderful weekend. To top it off, the owners made an appearance and were so warm and gracious!!! I've already recommended this spot to my friends, family, and coworkers. I can't say enough wonderful things about this property and our stay.

May 2017 - Love this place. It's a great value compared to other places we've been to. Chairs and umbrellas there for use on the beach. The units are super comfy and have everything you need. Fire pit for evening visits. Beautiful sunsets and great location. There are bikes there and laundry room available.

April 2017 - The units are newly remodeled and clean, and the outside is tidied regularly. The condo is set on a beautiful beach and the outside lighting, tables, and fire pit add to the relaxing vacation feel. We loved watching the sunset every night from our quiet beach! I am ready to book it for next year and recommend it to all our friends and family.

March 2017 -We absolutely loooove this property!! It was so cute & cozy! Perfect for our family! We were literally STEPS from the sand & beach! The property owners decorated very nicely & thought of everything! The patio was beautiful at night with the lights & the waves in the background. We will definitely plan another trip back soon!

March 2017 - This was a perfect location for us to relax, enjoy the sun, walk the beach, listen to the waves, and watch the sunset. We loved being able to walk out of our condo in the morning with our morning coffee prepared in the small kitchen equipped with the basics. The amenities outside consisted of chairs, loungers, cushions, umbrellas, some games, a fire pit, and a grill which added to the ambiance of the condo. We could cook easy meals in the condo if we did not feel like leaving our beach hideaway but had restaurants nearby if we wanted to purchase takeout OR eat in the restaurant. Many were in walking distance. The only downside is that you cannot control who rents the condos next to or above you and how noisy they will be.

February 2017 - Recently renovated, its spotless, fresh and squeaky clean.Nice little place and everything is brand new.Outdoor landscaping is perfect, very beachy but not fussy.Free loungers, cushions, umbrellas, kayaks, beach bikes, and even free laundry machines, you're not going to get all that at this price anywhere else! We've stayed all up and down the gulf coast and this place and location, cannot be beat.Coming back next year, for sure.
