Originally known as Indian Rocks South Shore, this quiet beach town is one of the oldest and smallest beach communities with the longest name. It was named Indian Rocks Beach, South Shore because the tiny community wanted a separate identity from the City of Indian Rocks Beach. The Town averages only a block in width between the Gulf of Mexico and by an area known as The Narrows

It was originally an Indian campsite and got its name from the large red rocks found along its shoreline. Its first "settlers" were a pair of Robinson Crusoe-Type brothers named Cochran. In 1883 four Cedar Key speculators sailing to St. Petersburg, stopped to explore the Island. They were fascinated by the Island's possibilities for future development and bought it from the Cochran Brothers for a nominal sum. It is said the brothers bartered their Island "for little more than a string of beads and $25.00, figuratively speaking, like the Indians of Manhattan". The region soon became a popular residential and vacation area for many prominent Tampans such as the McKay family. (Tampa Tribune)

Until a wooden turn bridge was built in 1916, a ferryboat transported pedestrians to the Island, and a barge carried horses, buggies and a few automobiles to the summer resort. In 1905 the Railroad ran a spur line from the mainland to the beach and a hotel was built, adding to the Island's popularity. The railroad spur was abandoned later, but the community continued to grow especially during the Post-World War II building boom. Eventually in 1973 the name was officially changed to the more manageable Indian Shores. Presently the town's residential quality and its assortment of shops and restaurants help visitors feel right at home and is popular from snowbirds to seabirds. Favorite local spots are the eccentric Indian Shores Coffee Company and the popular Salt Rock Grill.

August 2018 - While looking for a romantic getaway that isn't real touristy, we stumbled upon this little gem. The condo is small yet has every amenity needed. Besides the basic household needs, they also include a grill, kayaks, paddle boards, chairs, umbrellas & more. Just open up the sliding door, walk 10 steps & you're on the beach. The views are phenomenal. We saw dolphins, stingrays, pelicans & other little fishes. The beach is so clean & the sand is soft yet packed enough to walk on it. We will definitely return. This place is wonderful. Robin V

August 2018 - We had the best beach vacation at Bungalow Beach Place! The condo is very clean and well decorated. We loved the grill and fire pit and it was very nice that they supplied beach chairs, umbrellas, kayaks, etc. We would come back in a heartbeat! Alea C

July 2018 - Such a lovely place to stay! Upon arrival, unit was perfectly clean. The bed was comfy with super soft linens. The sand is less than 20 feet from the patio. The beach is beautiful. It is a quiet beach, not busy at all! We used the paddle board and other water toys. We would definitely return to this property. Sarah V

July 2018 - This is the second year in a row I've stayed at Bungalow Beach Place on Indian Shores, and both times I've been delighted with my experience. The main building faces the gulf, with a wonderful view of the ocean, palm trees, and low dunes covered with cheerful yellow flowers. I could appreciate the view from the comfort of my air conditioned room, or outside on a sheltered brick patio. The beach is only steps away and the owners provide you with everything needed to make your beach experience a success - chairs, umbrellas, water crafts, inner tubes (I floated in the ocean for hours!), even toys for the kids. The units are one bedroom plus a sofa bed in the living room. I'd say each unit is best for two people, but a couple with one or two kids would also do well in any beach facing unit. For larger groups, there are some two bedroom units without a beach view (but you're still seconds from the beach). The units themselves are tastefully decorated with comfortable furniture and beach-themed art. If you're a TV nut, each unit has two flat-screened TV's - one in the living room and one in the bedroom. There's also a clean coffee maker (a must for me!), and all the dishes you need to serve six. There are two gas grills on opposite sides of the patio to accommodate guests, and plenty of extra gas canisters if you happen to run out. If you don't want to grill out, there are plenty of great places to eat out in the neighborhood. My favorite local sandwich is the grilled grouper sandwich from Crabby Bill's just up the street. I prefer to eat outside at Crabby Bill's rather than in their air conditioned dining room, or I order the sandwich as a take-out and have a glass of wine at the outside bar while I'm waiting. For a special dinner I'd recommend Guppies about five miles up the road towards Clearwater. I have eaten at Guppies many times and have NEVER been disappointed. I'm a serious foodie so that's saying a lot. Again I recommend eating outside on the patio. If it's super hot, wait until later in the evening. You won't regret it. For breakfast pastries, just past Guppies is a wonderful French Bakery. For groceries head over to Publix or Safeway (necessities are too expensive on the beach!). Finally, I'll leave it to you to find places to go while in Indian Shores, but one place I would like to recommend is the Indian Shores Seaside Seabird Sanctuary. It's nearby, free, and super cool! July 2018 - This place was exactly what the listing said. Footsteps away from the beach!! My family of four had a wonderful time and would definitely come back again. A little slice of paradise!!. Jeri B

July 2018 - Everything we needed was available and much more. Excellent job with remodel and hospitality. Very organized management, will come back to any of your properties.Carla G

June 2018- I have to say that it was the best decision my family and I have made about choosing a place stay. Not only is a beautiful, comfortable and very accessible place, but also the attention from the management staff and the prompt action to fix any inconvenience (if any). We had the pleasure to meet the owners and I have to say they are very very nice people. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Rossi for your attention and for giving my family the opportunity to have a unforgettable experience. My wife and I were able to celebrate our vows renewal for our 10 years of matrimony and it was the perfect place for it. Once again thank you very much for everything. 100% will recommend this property to anyone. Abner L

June 2018 - The location is perfect beach is just out your door, chairs, umbrellas, paddle boards all provided. The fire pit is a nice extra to enjoy the beach in the evening. Very quiet and private away from the high density tourist areas exactly what we were looking for! We will be back soon. Lisa M

June 2018 - What a great place to stay that is right on the beach and has amazing views of the ocean! The property is well maintained, clean and super cute. We loved the peacefulness and the "not over crowded" area on the beach. We would definitely come back and stay here! Amazing experience!!!! Tracy H

May 2018 - On the date of our arrival, we had very nasty weather due to the tropical storm Alberto, but we didn't let that get in the way! We went to a local restaurant that night (Salt Rock Grill) and did a TB Rays baseball game the following day. We enjoyed the property as much as we could, due to the inclement weather but would definitely rent with this property again!! Gloria F

April 2018 - Can I give 6 stars !!! AMAZING -Bungalow Beach Place is awesome, the space is like a beach magazine, open door to toes in the sand, Evelyn on premises could not be more helpful, like she is inviting ou into her home , the experience from booking to departure was top notch, A++++

March 2018 - We fully enjoyed this beautiful condo to the max! It was extremely clean and had everything we needed. You can't beat the location of this property. Not only is the beach just steps away, we could walk to the local shops for needed sunscreen. The ice cream shop across the street was delicious and the Dog and Parrot bar was a fun time for the adults. The kids had a great time with the provided kayaks and we sat at the patio table for dinner with the gulf sunset as our backdrop. The sand on the beach was soft white and very clean. We were pleasantly surprised with the quiet not too busy beach and found it easy to relax. If the kid's need more stimulation John's Pass is just a few miles down the road with tons of shops and restaurants. There is also a mini golf just down the way as well. This was definitely a favorite for our family and look forward to our next stay here.
