Originally known as Indian Rocks South Shore, this quiet beach town is one of the oldest and smallest beach communities with the longest name. It was named Indian Rocks Beach, South Shore because the tiny community wanted a separate identity from the City of Indian Rocks Beach. The Town averages only a block in width between the Gulf of Mexico and by an area known as The Narrows

It was originally an Indian campsite and got its name from the large red rocks found along its shoreline. Its first "settlers" were a pair of Robinson Crusoe-Type brothers named Cochran. In 1883 four Cedar Key speculators sailing to St. Petersburg, stopped to explore the Island. They were fascinated by the Island's possibilities for future development and bought it from the Cochran Brothers for a nominal sum. It is said the brothers bartered their Island "for little more than a string of beads and $25.00, figuratively speaking, like the Indians of Manhattan". The region soon became a popular residential and vacation area for many prominent Tampans such as the McKay family. (Tampa Tribune)

Until a wooden turn bridge was built in 1916, a ferryboat transported pedestrians to the Island, and a barge carried horses, buggies and a few automobiles to the summer resort. In 1905 the Railroad ran a spur line from the mainland to the beach and a hotel was built, adding to the Island's popularity. The railroad spur was abandoned later, but the community continued to grow especially during the Post-World War II building boom. Eventually in 1973 the name was officially changed to the more manageable Indian Shores. Presently the town's residential quality and its assortment of shops and restaurants help visitors feel right at home and is popular from snowbirds to seabirds. Favorite local spots are the eccentric Indian Shores Coffee Company and the popular Salt Rock Grill.

April 2018 - Can I give 6 stars !!! AMAZING -Bungalow Beach Place is awesome, the space is like a beach magazine, open door to toes in the sand, Evelyn on premises could not be more helpful, like she is inviting ou into her home , the experience from booking to departure was top notch, A++++

March 2018 - We fully enjoyed this beautiful condo to the max! It was extremely clean and had everything we needed. You can't beat the location of this property. Not only is the beach just steps away, we could walk to the local shops for needed sunscreen. The ice cream shop across the street was delicious and the Dog and Parrot bar was a fun time for the adults. The kids had a great time with the provided kayaks and we sat at the patio table for dinner with the gulf sunset as our backdrop. The sand on the beach was soft white and very clean. We were pleasantly surprised with the quiet not too busy beach and found it easy to relax. If the kid's need more stimulation John's Pass is just a few miles down the road with tons of shops and restaurants. There is also a mini golf just down the way as well. This was definitely a favorite for our family and look forward to our next stay here.

March 2018 - Loved our little piece of beach front paradise. Our condo had all the amenities we might need plus extra nice touches such as an outdoor firepit, bicycles and kayaks . Our room was spotless. We especially loved the adorable duckling couple that greeted us at the patio doors every morning. We will definitely be back!

February 2018 - The unit we rented was exactly as pictured .. beautiful! The location, perfect. We can’t say enough about the amenities; sand chairs, loungers, the gas grill, the fire pit, the cooler outside your backdoor and the ice machine only steps away and you are right on the beach! We couldn’t get enough of the gorgeous sunsets. We certainly hope to be back next March. Thanks for sharing your lovely rental with us!

February 2018 - We spent valentines week 2018 at this property and had the most relaxing week of vacation we’ve experienced in a long time. The proximity to the beach is wonderful and the sunsets were amazing. We cannot wait to return for a future visit. If you are looking for some relaxation in the sun and quiet time to read or take a nap on the beach, this is the place for you!

December 2017 - Beautiful little condo with great amenities right on the beach. Condo was immaculate and well equipped. Great location. Everything you needed for an enjoyable stay was provided including beach chairs, coolers for the outside tables, a fire pit with wood provided and laundry facilities. We would stay again if we return to the area.

December 2017 - I would recommend this lovely place to all my friends. It was very clean and we had everything we needed. Right on the beach with plenty of nice patio furniture, lounge chairs, a fire pit and other beach related goodies. Lots of wonderful restaurants nearby.

July 2017 - Excellent place!!! Excellent location!!!

June 2017 - Great location, beautiful condo, would recommend to anyone!

June 2017 - This is a wonderful property and perfect location. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again. I am a fanatic about cleanliness and this place was super clean - the deep clean kind. Other guests built a fire in the fire pit and that was enjoyable. Laundry facilities are very impressive. Beach is just steps away with no street to cross. Well stocked, lots of bonuses like kayaks, bikes, lounges, umbrellas, etc, You won't be disappointed if you book this property.

April 2017 -Very well maintained and beautiful. Being right on the ocean is awesome. Everything was clean and welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay and will hopefully be back. Wish we were here longer this stay. Our daughter loves the cranes and ducks that visit every day. The only thing was our refrigerator didn't seem to work so well. The freezer was fine the but the fridge didn't seem to cool enough. Was really great there was washer/dryer and ice in house. Really was a great experience. Thanks!!

April 2017 - This place is the absolute perfect location - directly on the beach! A sliding door walks out to a patio with tables and a grill and then straight onto the sand. There's even a fire pit and lots of wood so you can have an epic fire on the beach as the sun goes down. The pictures of this space don't do it justice - it's peaceful and beautiful. The bed was really comfortable with really high-quality bedding and the space overall was very clean and well decorated. Even in what should have been the busiest season, it was so quiet and relaxing
-- just what I was looking for. There are also lots of great restaurants very close by - even a handmade market on Sundays right down the street. There's a small little store for sundries and snacks a minute walk away and some good lunch options and ice cream directly across the street. Check-in was easy with a code on the door and all of the rules and instructions were very straightforward and reasonable. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again!

April 2017 - This beach is absolutely stunning and not too crowded which we liked. The bungalows are small but so nice and clean and cute, we loved ours. We loved looking at the amazing view while we were there. Close to many restaurants and things, would definitely go back!

February 2017 - We loved our stay at Indian Shores. This bungalow is perfectly situated on the beach. I could literally see the beach from my bed upon awaking. This is bungalow 4 and it is small, the greatness of the space is the outside area. There are several nice picnic tables, grills, chairs, for your use. It is well lit and accessible to all. During our stay family seemed to nicely take turns using the area. The laundry area is great and the coolers located outside of each door is so convenient. The stove, refrigerator, sink area is apartment size and large meals would be hard to prepare, but we did breakfast and lunch and grilled out for dinner twice. I think there was service for 4 or 5, but space is limited. We would and probably will work with these owners again, the place was up to date, well organized and friendly. Our only complaint is that the bed was too soft. We are not overly large people, but felt we sank into the bed and kinda had to lift ourselves up to turn over. I understand some people really like softer beds, but it was not very comfortable for us, but the beach access more than made up for our sleeping complaints. The beach either way is beautiful, not over crowded and the sunsets were perfect!
