Originally known as Indian Rocks South Shore, this quiet beach town is one of the oldest and smallest beach communities with the longest name. It was named Indian Rocks Beach, South Shore because the tiny community wanted a separate identity from the City of Indian Rocks Beach. The Town averages only a block in width between the Gulf of Mexico and by an area known as The Narrows.

It was originally an Indian campsite and got its name from the large red rocks found along its shoreline. Its first "settlers" were a pair of Robinson Crusoe-Type brothers named Cochran. In 1883 four Cedar Key speculators sailing to St. Petersburg, stopped to explore the Island. They were fascinated by the Island's possibilities for future development and bought it from the Cochran Brothers for a nominal sum. It is said the brothers bartered their Island "for little more than a string of beads and $25.00, figuratively speaking, like the Indians of Manhattan". The region soon became a popular residential and vacation area for many prominent Tampans such as the McKay family. (Tampa Tribune)

Until a wooden turn bridge was built in 1916, a ferryboat transported pedestrians to the Island, and a barge carried horses, buggies and a few automobiles to the summer resort. In 1905 the Railroad ran a spur line from the mainland to the beach and a hotel was built, adding to the Island's popularity. The railroad spur was abandoned later, but the community continued to grow especially during the Post-World War II building boom. Eventually in 1973 the name was officially changed to the more manageable Indian Shores. Presently the town's residential quality and its assortment of shops and restaurants help visitors feel right at home and is popular from snowbirds to seabirds. Favorite local spots are the eccentric Indian Shores Coffee Company and the popular Salt Rock Grill.

Submit a Review for Bungalow Beach Place 5
April 2018 - We stayed at Beach Bungalow #5. When we walked in, the view of the gulf was absolutely stunning, the rental suite looked like it was from a magazine! Everything was perfectly clean and amazingly maintained. Bed was exceptionally comfy. When they say steps from the ocean, it really is! And the beach is beautiful, very few people the whole time we were there, not busy at all. We will definitely be recommending and returning!

February 2018 - This was our second year staying at this property. It is well kept and very comfortable. It's in a great location with many shops and restaurants nearby. There is a cute ice cream shop right across the street. John's Pass is a short drive away as well as Clearwater Beach. We would definitely recommend this property.

February 2018 -The location of this property is perfect! Super clean, and had everything we needed for the 3 nights we were there. Comfortable bed and great shower is always a great start and unit 5 sure did have both of those. The only negative I found (not about the rental property), is the excessive paperwork needed to rent this unit, otherwise we really enjoyed ourselves.

January 2018 - My husband and I stayed with you for a short visit. We are always looking for a 1BR unit in a smaller property. It was just perfect for us. Another couple was with us that had another unit. They both were decorated nicely and we were very pleased. The weather was a little chilly so we were in the units more than we normally would have been. We will try to stay here again if circumstances bring us to the area.

July 2017 - Cozy 2nd floor bungalow with all the right stuff and all updated, so very modern beachy feel. The bed in #5 is the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in (including my own $2500 Dr Bruce bed). The fridge is the perfect size and the kitchen had everything we needed (there were coffee filters, no coffee, bring your own paper products and bar soap and there were only two tiny bottles of shampoo/conditioner. Whatever is there was probably left over from the last guest). We had to stop at a Walmart several miles away to get the things we thought we might need, and that was just guessing. One of the things we enjoyed was sharing and swapping what was left over on our last day with other guests. This place has low beach chairs you can bring out to the beach and umbrellas, so that was nice. There's a fire pit and firewood and more very nice beach chairs. Due to being on the 2nd floor, we didn't get an unobstructed view of the ocean due to a line of 6 palm trees at the lawn's edge, but the sunsets were still spectacular. All in all it was a very pleasant stay. I wished we could have stayed longer and used the bikes and kayaks they provide to guests. We did use the boogie boards they provided and they proved to be great for wave-jumping. There are also life-jackets if you want one. This place is classy and clean and we highly recommend it. Just pay attention to all the rules and you should have a great time too.

May 2017 - This is the most coziness place on the beach in Florida. The bungalow is clean, warm and decorated classic beach theme. The kayaks, the paddles boards, the barbecue grill and the adirondack furniture and fire pit is the best. They have this for the guest to utilize talk about fist class. The property is a beautiful layout once I get there I never want to leave and either do my children. We will go three to four times a year.

May 2017 - The description and photos are very accurate. Truthfully, the place was even more beautiful in person! I preferred Unit 5 because the bedroom was in the back, separate from the living quarters, compared to the middle units. Also I loved being on the left side because I think it had a better vantage point. The whole place was fabulous though! Having the kayaks was definitely an added bonus. Everything in the unit worked with no problems so I never had to contact the owner or property manager. During our stay, we went to Caladesi State Park, Botanical Gardens, John's Pass, Pier 60, and played disc golf at Taylor Park. A few of our favorite restaurants were Seabreeze Island Grill, Snappers, Gators, and Sweet Sage Café. So we stayed busy (in a good way) but made it back most every night to get pics of the fabulous sunsets. The landscaping and layout made for some awesome photos. It was so peaceful waking up and stepping outside to take in the views and listen to the ocean waves. Even though most of the units were occupied, everyone was respectful and nice so didn't have to worry about noisy and obnoxious neighbors. I much preferred staying here over a condo or hotel. When I come back, I will definitely stay here!! I have already recommended this place to a few friends/acquaintances. Next time, I will spend more time just relaxing at Bungalow Beach Place but since this was my first true beach vacation/Florida trip, we had to check out multiple things.

March 2017 - The owners did a great job of decorating and furnishing their beach condo. The interior is first-rate (TVs, dishes, linens, etc) and the location on the beach and near restaurants can't be beat. If you can get this unit - do so!

February 2017 - We had the most relaxing, laid back time at this condo. Small, and very quaint. Really nice outdoor seating areas, fire pit for evening cocktails. Short walk to the beach! Large, white sandy beach. The rooms have great little kitchens for preparing meals. We walked to some really fun eating places. The bedroom linens were super comfy and fluffy nice; and the bathrooms were very clean and fresh. We are going back again for Memorial Day weekend! Such a great location right on the beach and not a crowded area.

February 2017 - We spent 10 days at Bungalow Beach and absolutely loved it! Clean & comfortable and steps from the beach. We loved having a grill onsite. We will definitely stay here again.
