Originally known as Indian Rocks South Shore, this quiet beach town is one of the oldest and smallest beach communities with the longest name. It was named Indian Rocks Beach, South Shore because the tiny community wanted a separate identity from the City of Indian Rocks Beach. The Town averages only a block in width between the Gulf of Mexico and by an area known as The Narrows.

It was originally an Indian campsite and got its name from the large red rocks found along its shoreline. Its first "settlers" were a pair of Robinson Crusoe-Type brothers named Cochran. In 1883 four Cedar Key speculators sailing to St. Petersburg, stopped to explore the Island. They were fascinated by the Island's possibilities for future development and bought it from the Cochran Brothers for a nominal sum. It is said the brothers bartered their Island "for little more than a string of beads and $25.00, figuratively speaking, like the Indians of Manhattan". The region soon became a popular residential and vacation area for many prominent Tampans such as the McKay family. (Tampa Tribune)

Until a wooden turn bridge was built in 1916, a ferryboat transported pedestrians to the Island, and a barge carried horses, buggies and a few automobiles to the summer resort. In 1905 the Railroad ran a spur line from the mainland to the beach and a hotel was built, adding to the Island's popularity. The railroad spur was abandoned later, but the community continued to grow especially during the Post-World War II building boom. Eventually in 1973 the name was officially changed to the more manageable Indian Shores. Presently the town's residential quality and its assortment of shops and restaurants help visitors feel right at home and is popular from snowbirds to seabirds. Favorite local spots are the eccentric Indian Shores Coffee Company and the popular Salt Rock Grill.

April 2018 - We prefer locations right on the beach and unit 6 had the best view and the easiest access of any place we’ve stayed! LITERALLY right in the water! They provided grills, umbrellas, chairs, even kayaks, for use! The laundry room and ice maker both came in handy also. We had our own patio furniture and convenient parking too. Booking was simple, communication was great! I’d definitely stay here again! The unit (and building) were adorable! Very charming, well kept and clean! Smelled and looked fresh for us! The decor is perfect, not overly beachy but you still get the vibe. Kitchen had the basics needed to cook at home during our stay, we needed a spatula though! They had paper products, basic toiletries, extra pillows etc. Only downfalls were the kitchen water pressure was basically non-existent, made it hard to do dishes and we didn’t have enough wash clothes/towels so we had to do laundry. Also, beach towels are NOT provided so bring your own! There is very little privacy , as the four top units share a balcony. The curtains offered the privacy we needed (but then you lose light and the VIEW!) The bed was nice but too soft for my liking. I’d definitely stay here again because of its proximity to restaurants, other popular beaches, etc. but mainly because of the view! It’s to die for!

March 2018 - My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Indian Shores. The condo was lovely and had everything we needed for a perfect getaway! The proximity to the beach was perfect, and the view from the condo was wonderful! We would definitely stay here again!

February 2018 - Beachfront Bungalow was awesome! Everything you needed for a beachfront getaway. Building itself was in great condition, well appointed, extremely clean, and in perfect location, directly on the beach. Couldn't have asked for more!

January 2018 - Place was small, but we knew that going in and the location on the beach was everything we were hoping for. We even made new friends due to the layout of the property. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to the area.

January 2018 - Very nice decor! We loved the location and the room. The coolers outside the back door are a wonderful idea!

December 2017 - We loved this little gem of a property- perfectly appointed for the perfect beach Christmas! Room was clean and beautiful. Linens were so cozy and comfy. Property has sea kayaks, fire pit, beach chairs and towels all for plenty to do on the beach. It's a great location on beachfront- with the beautiful gulf and plenty to walk to or a short drive. We love the Salt Rock grill in Indian Shores and go down to the Paris cafe in Indian Rocks for yummy espresso and pastries. Will definitely recommend to friends and be back soon!

August 2017 - We had a blast. This place is a hidden gem. Amazing view, 5 Star Location, clean, beautiful furnished. I loved that Seahorse Candle Holder so much :) Great customer service! Really nice staff. Easy booking!!! It was more than a perfect stay. We loved every second. We will definitely come back!

July 2017 - I can't say enough good things about my stay... and one full day I was sick from too much sun & wasn't able to enjoy the beach... However, I enjoyed the view sitting on the bed! The view from the room is magical... You just glance out the window & wow! there is the ocean... I loved that part... I was a bit intimidated by all the rules & not having a "front desk" say... person to check with to answer my questions. But... I did speak to the phone support person & received great customer service... Thank you for a great stay!!

July 2017 - My husband and I very much enjoyed this condo and the amazing location while in Indian Shores Beach this weekend. It was such a cute bungalow with an awesome outside back area where they had cornhole, tables, chairs, etc. I also enjoyed that they provide you with kayaks, bikes, and chairs. I felt like that was such a nice touch! The ONLY 'issue' I would say is the check-in/out times. Check-In is at 4pm and I felt like that was a bit late considering you're paying for the whole entire night. That part is kind of a rip-off to me. I understand that their cleaning people come in and clean the place after use, but it's a small bungalow and check-out is at 10am. I think even anywhere from noon to 2 would be much better, in my opinion.

July 2017 - This a beautifully renovated property - with an old-school beachy feel. They think of everything! The amenities are convenient and thoughtful. We'll definitely come back.

June 2017 - This was the second time we have stayed here and we wouldn't stay anywhere else. This place is AMAZING. The location is perfect (short drive to Clearwater and st. Pete) and the room is always beyond clean. The beach is never too crowded so it's no problem finding a spot and once outside your room, you're steps from the beach. Can't get much better than that. They have provided kayaks, bikes, cornhole, etc. for the guests to use and it is an absolute great addition. Always something to do and we never get bored. We were planning on coming back again next year but I am thinking we may have to plan a second trip back this year too! Can't wait until next time!

June 2017 - Very nicely updated with tons of conveniences for a comfortable stay. They thought of almost everything. The beautiful quiet beach front was so relaxing. And oh the spectacular sunsets!! If you don't indulge in the restaurants near by (aqua prime and salt rock grill were our favorites) the kitchen is sufficient for a small meal and the gas grills are a very nice touch for outdoor dining. We came down for a quiet relaxing honeymoon and this place did not disappoint. We would definitely return.

June 2017 - The Bungalow was an excellent property for a week of vacation. If you have children this is definitely the place to stay. There were many children. Twice we had someone in our parking spot. The room was spotless, kitchenette was great, and the view was perfect.

May 2017 - Very clean, amazing views, and the matters extremely comfortable. The owners have supplied this bungalow with everything you will need during your stay! Thank you so much for helping make this part of our vacation stress free!

May 2017 - Our room was very cozy and the view is beautiful. I felt like it was decorated so very beachy cute. We live less than 10 minutes away and just wanted a nice break from routine. The view was beautiful and totally enjoyed the sunsets. We dined at Guppy's and Salt Rock, our favorite restaurants. Just had a wonderful visit. It is quiet and the grounds are pretty. The beach is nice there. You don't have to walk a mile to get to the water like Treasure Island. It is my favorite area. Thank you Bungalow Beach Place.
