Originally known as Indian Rocks South Shore, this quiet beach town is one of the oldest and smallest beach communities with the longest name. It was named Indian Rocks Beach, South Shore because the tiny community wanted a separate identity from the City of Indian Rocks Beach. The Town averages only a block in width between the Gulf of Mexico and by an area known as The Narrows.

It was originally an Indian campsite and got its name from the large red rocks found along its shoreline. Its first "settlers" were a pair of Robinson Crusoe-Type brothers named Cochran. In 1883 four Cedar Key speculators sailing to St. Petersburg, stopped to explore the Island. They were fascinated by the Island's possibilities for future development and bought it from the Cochran Brothers for a nominal sum. It is said the brothers bartered their Island "for little more than a string of beads and $25.00, figuratively speaking, like the Indians of Manhattan". The region soon became a popular residential and vacation area for many prominent Tampans such as the McKay family. (Tampa Tribune)

Until a wooden turn bridge was built in 1916, a ferryboat transported pedestrians to the Island, and a barge carried horses, buggies and a few automobiles to the summer resort. In 1905 the Railroad ran a spur line from the mainland to the beach and a hotel was built, adding to the Island's popularity. The railroad spur was abandoned later, but the community continued to grow especially during the Post-World War II building boom. Eventually in 1973 the name was officially changed to the more manageable Indian Shores. Presently the town's residential quality and its assortment of shops and restaurants help visitors feel right at home and is popular from snowbirds to seabirds. Favorite local spots are the eccentric Indian Shores Coffee Company and the popular Salt Rock Grill.

December 2018 - This cozy place was literally steps to the beach. You feel like part of a small community here and noise was never an issue. We walked the beach daily and even joined a local Christmas Tree lighting event with the neighborhood. So relaxing to sit out on the balcony with a cup of coffee and listen to the waves. We're already planning our return trip. Even the other guests in condo were so friendly that we made some new friends. Joe W

August 2018 - This place is absolutely amazing , pictures do not do it justice. On the Gulf with beautiful sunsets. Everything you need from housing needs to recreational needs. We absolutely fell in Love with this place. Thank you for having us !! Juan

August 2018 - I took my mom on a much needed mom/daughter trip and we stayed here and we both absolutely loved it! It was such a sweet peaceful time. I couldn’t have asked for a better property. We loved the room and living room everything was decorated beautifully. Everything was kept clean. We loved being able to walk out to the beach every morning, evening, whenever we wanted to. We definitely plan to be back and have told all of our family about this property! Salena M

August 2018 - This bungalow had everything we needed right our fingertips. The beach was literally a fews steps away, and the view from our bed was amazing. The room had everything we needed to make some basic meals...the only complaints would be the size of the bathroom for someone big/tall, and many bugs seen outside (front and back door!). Aside from that, the view was amazing, all questions were answered fast, and check in was a breeze. We were able to check in a few hours earlier since the room was ready and that was an unexpected surprise. Thank you Jeff and Gina for allowing us to stay her. We will be back for sure! Swati P

July 2018 - Well maintained, very comfortable and spotless, will recommend this lovely place to our family and friends. Alan P

June 2018 -The complex was small, about 10 units. It felt very private. There were a lot of parties due to holiday and kids around, but we were not disturbed on our 25th anniversary get away. We could not hear the other guests. It was very clean and as described. The bed was extremely comfortable. Great outdoor space as well. We would definitely recommend to others. We went to Crabby Bill’s just like on our honeymoon. Also Maggie Mae’s, Untouchables pizza, Rooster fish, Caddy’s Pub, and the ice cream shop directly across the street, and the CVS for snacks. All was delightful. We bought 2 cheap beach towels at Walmart since there were not any provided. We enjoyed Clearwater Pier, Sandkey, Honeymoon State Park and Caladesi island, early morning walks at sunrise are almost in total solitude, daily dolphin sightings, good seashells, awesome beach fireworks, and observation of schools of sting rays feeding. We have family in the area and have made visits from Clearwater to Redington for 20 years. This is the first time we stayed here. Had a rental car, but everything you need is onsite or within walking distance. We had a much needed get away. Dionna and Tom D

July 2018 -Property was very well maintained and clean. The amenities were great included the use of kayaks, paddle boards, umbrellas, chairs, fire pit, and grill. The room was small but very clean and had a full kitchenette. We enjoyed the beach very much and had the opportunity to swim with about 25 stingray (very cool). We remembered to do the stingray shuffle! We saw a dolphin one morning and enjoyed beautiful sunsets. We ate a Guppy's for our anniversary and highly recommend it (definitely call ahead) as it was packed! The only downside was our A/C wasn't very cold (they were resolving some issues) and the bathroom was very tight (not for a larger person). All in all wonderful vacation! We would definitely come back again! Carrie H

June 2018 - Ah. Mazing! This efficiency condo was perfect for a much needed beach getaway. The room is very cute, the bed is extremely comfortable, the views are spectacular and the beach is literally steps from your back door. The added extras such as beach chairs, kayaks, umbrellas, fire pit, bicycles, beach toys etc made the entire stay so easy. I am not a fan of crowded beaches, so this location was exactly what I was looking for. I made a day trip to Clearwater Beach and could it get back to the bunglow fast enough. The bikes made it easy to take sight seeing trips. And Keegan's Seafood has the best she crab soup! Booking was easy - I actually booked the day I checked in! I didn't want to leave, and I will most definitely be back. Lindy S

April 2018 - We prefer locations right on the beach and unit 6 had the best view and the easiest access of any place we’ve stayed! LITERALLY right in the water! They provided grills, umbrellas, chairs, even kayaks, for use! The laundry room and ice maker both came in handy also. We had our own patio furniture and convenient parking too. Booking was simple, communication was great! I’d definitely stay here again! The unit (and building) were adorable! Very charming, well kept and clean! Smelled and looked fresh for us! The decor is perfect, not overly beachy but you still get the vibe. Kitchen had the basics needed to cook at home during our stay, we needed a spatula though! They had paper products, basic toiletries, extra pillows etc. Only downfalls were the kitchen water pressure was basically non-existent, made it hard to do dishes and we didn’t have enough wash clothes/towels so we had to do laundry. Also, beach towels are NOT provided so bring your own! There is very little privacy , as the four top units share a balcony. The curtains offered the privacy we needed (but then you lose light and the VIEW!) The bed was nice but too soft for my liking. I’d definitely stay here again because of its proximity to restaurants, other popular beaches, etc. but mainly because of the view! It’s to die for! Sarah P

March 2018 - My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Indian Shores. The condo was lovely and had everything we needed for a perfect getaway! The proximity to the beach was perfect, and the view from the condo was wonderful! We would definitely stay here again! Jennifer W

February 2018 - Beachfront Bungalow was awesome! Everything you needed for a beachfront getaway. Building itself was in great condition, well appointed, extremely clean, and in perfect location, directly on the beach. Couldn't have asked for more! David S

January 2018 - Place was small, but we knew that going in and the location on the beach was everything we were hoping for. We even made new friends due to the layout of the property. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to the area.

January 2018 - Very nice decor! We loved the location and the room. The coolers outside the back door are a wonderful idea!
