Originally known as Indian Rocks South Shore, this quiet beach town is one of the oldest and smallest beach communities with the longest name. It was named Indian Rocks Beach, South Shore because the tiny community wanted a separate identity from the City of Indian Rocks Beach. The Town averages only a block in width between the Gulf of Mexico and by an area known as The Narrows.

It was originally an Indian campsite and got its name from the large red rocks found along its shoreline. Its first "settlers" were a pair of Robinson Crusoe-Type brothers named Cochran. In 1883 four Cedar Key speculators sailing to St. Petersburg, stopped to explore the Island. They were fascinated by the Island's possibilities for future development and bought it from the Cochran Brothers for a nominal sum. It is said the brothers bartered their Island "for little more than a string of beads and $25.00, figuratively speaking, like the Indians of Manhattan". The region soon became a popular residential and vacation area for many prominent Tampans such as the McKay family. (Tampa Tribune)

Until a wooden turn bridge was built in 1916, a ferryboat transported pedestrians to the Island, and a barge carried horses, buggies and a few automobiles to the summer resort. In 1905 the Railroad ran a spur line from the mainland to the beach and a hotel was built, adding to the Island's popularity. The railroad spur was abandoned later, but the community continued to grow especially during the Post-World War II building boom. Eventually in 1973 the name was officially changed to the more manageable Indian Shores. Presently the town's residential quality and its assortment of shops and restaurants help visitors feel right at home and is popular from snowbirds to seabirds. Favorite local spots are the eccentric Indian Shores Coffee Company and the popular Salt Rock Grill.

March 2018 - Beautiful interior, everything new and clean. Fully stocked kitchen. A little pricey and small, but right on the beach. Kayaks and fire a bonus. Helpful to have so many beach chairs but need to bring your own beach towels

March 2018 - This property was a wonderful place to stay. It was clean, updated and well stocked for using the kitchen when needed. The location could not have been better! The town of Indian Shores is quiet and relaxing. I would absolutely recommend this property to couples needing some down time!

March 2018 - We Loved the quiet and semi secluded location. Clean, neat, quiet, well decorated, nicely equipped, perfect for two! Just Loved Loved this place and want to go back.

July 2017 - Right on the beach with an incredible view of the ocean, perfect for watching sunsets. Tons of great amenities and very clean. We will definitely stay again!

June 2017 - My husband and I were looking for a relaxing vacation and found this place. It was absolutely amazing! The beach was never crowded but with 2 or 3 people. The room was very clean and super cute and up-to-date! We did use the bikes a couple days to ride to the coffee shop nearby. Neither my husband, nor I, have a single complaint! It was perfection and are already talking about coming back next year. The area had no traffic and we never had to wait the be seated at nearby restaurants! We loved the area and the place!

May 2017 - No detail was overlooked. The furnishings are lovely. The owners provide bikes, chairs, kayaks, umbrellas...everything needed for a beach trip. No pool, which was perfect because it was quiet.

May 2017 - "My husband and I loved our stay at the Bungalows. We were especially impressed with the level of cleanliness in the condo. Another thing we loved was how the windows are tinted making it so that you could leave the blinds open to enjoy the ocean view with some additional privacy. The complex had loads of beach toys, beach chairs, kayaks and bikes as well as multiple grills for you to enjoy. The Bungalow's stood out from the rest with it's cute décor and polished look. We thought the market lighting out back was a nice touch! There are a few restaurants within walking distance of the Bungalow's which was a huge plus. We would recommend the Bungalow's to anyone looking for an authentic Indian Shores experience!"

October 2016 - My husband and I stayed at the Beach Bungalow 7. Everything about the bungalow was wonderful!! You walk in and it is decorated beautiful with shades of blues and beach decor, just as the pics. show. It was very well equipped with everything we needed. The location is perfect, you step off your balcony onto the beautiful white sandy beach with lots of amenities to enjoy. We enjoyed our beautiful mornings and sunset walks. We highly recommend the bungalow and will definitely be back for another stay!
