Originally known as Indian Rocks South Shore, this quiet beach town is one of the oldest and smallest beach communities with the longest name. It was named Indian Rocks Beach, South Shore because the tiny community wanted a separate identity from the City of Indian Rocks Beach. The Town averages only a block in width between the Gulf of Mexico and by an area known as The Narrows.

It was originally an Indian campsite and got its name from the large red rocks found along its shoreline. Its first "settlers" were a pair of Robinson Crusoe-Type brothers named Cochran. In 1883 four Cedar Key speculators sailing to St. Petersburg, stopped to explore the Island. They were fascinated by the Island's possibilities for future development and bought it from the Cochran Brothers for a nominal sum. It is said the brothers bartered their Island "for little more than a string of beads and $25.00, figuratively speaking, like the Indians of Manhattan". The region soon became a popular residential and vacation area for many prominent Tampans such as the McKay family. (Tampa Tribune)

Until a wooden turn bridge was built in 1916, a ferryboat transported pedestrians to the Island, and a barge carried horses, buggies and a few automobiles to the summer resort. In 1905 the Railroad ran a spur line from the mainland to the beach and a hotel was built, adding to the Island's popularity. The railroad spur was abandoned

Submit a Review for Bungalow Beach Place 8
March 2018 - We stayed at this property for a Spring Break getaway with our family (including our younger kids). What we were most wanting in a place was easy access to the beach, since our main goal was to relax in the sun, and this fit the bill perfectly. Our kids didn't even have to slip shoes on to go to the beach.....just walk down the balcony stairs and across the small lawn. We used the outdoor dining tables a few times. I would definitely consider another stay here if my travels take me to this area!

March 2018 - We enjoyed everything about this property...the beach, the bikes, the kayaks! We ate out at several places and enjoyed the Indian Shores community. The A/C could have been better. The temperatures in the unit seemed warm. Despite that (most time was spent outside) we had a wonderful time.

February 2018 - We stayed in Unit 8, which is on the second floor
-- a corner unit, so there's extra light in the living room. It faces the beach, and has a sweet little balcony with a table and two chairs, perfect for morning coffee or late-afternoon drinks while watching the amazing sunsets. The unit itself was quiet, spotless and completely renovated. Acres of storage space for clothes and pantry goods. All the equipment worked perfectly, from the two flat-screen TVs to the WiFi. It looked just like the photos, too. I definitely recommend this place.

August 2017 - Bungalow Beach Place was the perfect vacation spot for my boyfriend and I. We loved the beach access and how it was more private than say Clearwater. Beautiful sunsets every night. The unit itself was put together nicely and was clean. Everything we would need was there for use. The grills outside were an added bonus because we do a lot of grilling at home, so it was nice to grill and have a beautiful view. This was our first vacation together in 7 years and the first day we both said this will be our vacation spot. We loved it so much that we ended up booking an extra night. We loved the atmosphere in the area. We will definitely be back! DeeAnna

July 2017 - We never imagined this treasure on the beach would be so wonderful! Our family loved the adorable condo with such nice updates and it was super clean! The kids loved being able to run to the beach and play on the nice lawn space with toys and roast marshmallows! We cannot wait to return. We visited the Clearwater Marine Aquarium nearby to visit Winter the Dolphin and found some great Cuban sandwiches right down the street at the Kooky Coconut! We will be back as soon as we can! Thank you for making this such a nice get away. R.Breeze

July 2017 - The property was well maintained and the rooms were nicely re-done and very clean. My wife and I were very happy with our stay. The only thing we didn't like is when we had to leave. I can't wait to return!

June 2017 - It was so close to the beach. Lots of great restaurants and things to do close by. The rental was spotless and beautifully decorated. Loved it.

June 2017 - We loved this place! We stayed in unit #8 which was tastefully decorated, quiet and had everything we needed. The unit was so close to the beach and felt like a private beach. We will definitely be back.

March 2017 - We loved our stay! It was a perfect, quiet, relaxing getaway! Right on the beautiful beach, spectacular sunsets, walking distance to some local places and a short ride to Clearwater Beach or St Pete Beach. The Bungalow was updated, clean and nicely decorated. We did not want to leave and will definitely be back!

December 2016 - Great Place with amazing views and great Secluded location but still close enough to Johns Pass and Clearwater!

September 2016 - We found the Bungalow Beach Place to be nicely decorated with excellent amenities such as beach chairs, a fire pit, laundry facilities, and even beach toys/raft. The owners clearly thought about things that you want to have at the beach, and they provided it. Beach was nice, especially the week we were there as it wasn't too crowded. Good dining options within a short drive. The bedroom was a tight space, and price was on the high side for the room size. Also, this may not work for those wanting to do a one or two night stay - when we went (off season) they had a 3-night minimum. Overall, we really enjoyed it and would go back.

March 2016 - The location of the condo was great with a nearby pub, coffee shop and ice cream. The decor was perfect with soft beach colors and accents. We had everything we needed to prepare our own meals with the new grills outside and cookware inside. The mattress was softer than we like but everything else was perfect for our stay. The beach chairs and access to beautiful sunsets made our stay memorable.

January 2016 - We stayed here from Saturday January 30 to Wednesday February 3. First impressions, CLEAN. The unit was wonderfully clean and very nicely decorated. My husband would have preferred brighter light bulbs in the fixtures but that would be all. The view of the Gulf spectacular. So nice to sit and watch the sun set every evening and to have the beach right out your front door. The kitchenette is perfect for making breakfast, lunch or appetizers for taking to the beach for sunset. We did not prepare dinner in the unit. Parking is tight but not we did not have a problem. The surrounding area quiet with nice restaurants and coffee shops nearby. We would stay here again.

December 2015 - My wife and I stayed there for 4 days/ 3 nights for our 33rd anniversary. What can i say, it was wonderful. I had heard the units were totally remodeled. The new owner took extra care in making the units just beautiful. The view from the balcony on the 2nd floor looked right to gulf and it was a short walk to the beach. We sat around the fire pit each night with rum and cokes in hand, listened to the waves rolling in and watching the stars. Even saw a shooting star. We have a time share at a large condo on Sanibel Island and it can be noisy at times with lots of guests. Not so at Bungalow beach place. It was just what the title says. We have plans to make a return visit soon.
