Originally known as Indian Rocks South Shore, this quiet beach town is one of the oldest and smallest beach communities with the longest name. It was named Indian Rocks Beach, South Shore because the tiny community wanted a separate identity from the City of Indian Rocks Beach. The Town averages only a block in width between the Gulf of Mexico and by an area known as The Narrows.

It was originally an Indian campsite and got its name from the large red rocks found along its shoreline. Its first "settlers" were a pair of Robinson Crusoe-Type brothers named Cochran. In 1883 four Cedar Key speculators sailing to St. Petersburg, stopped to explore the Island. They were fascinated by the Island's possibilities for future development and bought it from the Cochran Brothers for a nominal sum. It is said the brothers bartered their Island "for little more than a string of beads and $25.00, figuratively speaking, like the Indians of Manhattan". The region soon became a popular residential and vacation area for many prominent Tampans such as the McKay family. (Tampa Tribune)

Until a wooden turn bridge was built in 1916, a ferryboat transported pedestrians to the Island, and a barge carried horses, buggies and a few automobiles to the summer resort. In 1905 the Railroad ran a spur line from the mainland to the beach and a hotel was built, adding to the Island's popularity. The railroad spur was abandoned later, but the community continued to grow especially during the Post-World War II building boom. Eventually in 1973 the name was officially changed to the more manageable Indian Shores. Presently the town's residential quality and its assortment of shops and restaurants help visitors feel right at home and is popular from snowbirds to seabirds. Favorite local spots are the eccentric Indian Shores Coffee Company and the popular Salt Rock Grill.

November 2018 - This is an immaculate property. Nicely decorated. A short. short walk to a beautiful beach view and beach access. Stunning sunsets. Francis L

March 2018 - We're a family of 4 (including 2 young adult children) and we had a wonderful time at Bungalow Beach Place, Unit 9. The location is fantastic, especially if you prefer a quieter, more private locale. It has a beautiful beach, is within short walking distance to ice cream and sandwich shops and a short drive to other restaurants and activities (including kayaking / paddle-boarding on the intercoastal waters, which we highly recommend). If you are interested in more of a party scene, Clearwater is a short drive away. We hear there is a trolley that runs up and down Gulf Blvd., all the way to Treasure Island, but we never actually used it or visited Treasure Island. The unit was beautiful
-- décor was lovely and everything was new. The living room was small (not an inch larger than what appeared in the photo), but it worked fine for us (with our son sleeping on the sofa). The kitchen supplies were minimalist, but sufficient. Even though we were on the ground floor near the road, we hardly heard any road traffic. We wished for more towel racks, but compensated by using the free, convenient and clean laundry room to dry our bathing (not beach) towels. The beach was even closer than expected
-- only a 30 second walk away. BBP has a lovely private sandy area protected by dunes just in front of the beach, with nice sturdy lounge chairs and Adirondack chairs in front of a firepit, with plenty of firewood available. This was a pleasant surprise, as we had not seen any photos of this area. BBP has 9 units total (2 buildings), which is more than we had realized, but it still felt small and private. BBP had 3 bikes available to be shared by all the units (we didn't use them, but they seemed to be generally available). BBP also had sea kayaks available, but we didn't see any life jackets. I recommend inquiring if you are interested in using them; we decided not to bother. Overall, a great vacation and a positive experience. We would rent this unit again and we would also recommend it to friends.

August 2017 - This was our second time staying at the Beach Bungalow. The first time we stayed in 7 and we loved them both. This property is beautifully decorated, extremely clean and the location couldn't be better! You have a direct view out the window at the gulf, the beaches are feet from the unit and are no where near as hectic as Clearwater or some of the other touristy areas. They provide amenities, like Kayaks, gas grills, etc.! Restaurants, etc. within walking distance-great place to get-away and relax! We'll be back! Melannie W

August 2017 - This property is pristine. Our family of six, four adults and two babies spent a fun filled weekend here. Although unit 9 is not directly beach front, you are on the sand after just a short walk. The yard is beautifully maintained with gas grills and plenty of dining tables and seating to eat al fresco. The photographs represent the property exactly. The kitchen in unit 9 is modern and beautiful, but lacks equipment for serious cooking. Nonetheless, the property is within walking distance of many eateries and other amenities, and food delivery is also easily available. Dee A

August 2017 - We booked the bungalow beach place totally last minute, we were excited they could accommodate us as we wanted to be in close proximity to our family members who were staying in the area. It was absolutely adorable, very clean with new furnishings and a comfortable and cozy beach cottage feel. I loved the access to the private beach, although our unit (#9) was not beachfront it was literally footsteps from the ocean!! Laundry facility onsite. Bikes, kayaks and fire pit on property and beach chairs for guests! I wish we were able to stay longer! Would definitely stay here again. Marc G

July 2017 - Very clean, I wish we more patio furniture on our patio. The community tables/chairs, etc...were always in use.

February 2017 - We stayed 2 nights in unit 9, and 5 nights in unit 5. What we liked about unit 9: - many kitchen essentials, full kitchen, full size fridge, excellent gas stove, coffee maker that had a built in filter so you didn't have to worry about remembering to buy them - all rooms were a good size - clean, comfortable, and well decorated - comfortable beds - great location with pubs, restaraunts, and shops nearby - bikes and kyaks provided for free - FREE laundry facility for guests - ice maker What to be aware of: - compared to unit 5, unit 9 is in a separate building in front of the building housing #5, so it is not beach front. But you simply walk a few steps to the back and you are on the beach. But no water view. - no real patio, there are a couple chairs but they are facing the parking lot and road. - louder than unit 5 due to traffic as it is next to the road I would definitely recommend unit 9 as long as you do not mind not having a Waterview and do not mind being next to a road.

October 2016 - We would return in heart beat ... this unit especially was so clean and cozy ...

July 2016 - Great location, and our unit was equipped with everything you need., sparkling clean, comfortable high quality bed linens and the best was they have a washer and dryer on the property you may utilize How convenient! A awesome Vacation on the beach and has the most beautiful sunsets. We also enjoyed the friendly safe environment. A place away from home! One thing the units are furnished with a Olde Floirda style and it gives you a relaxed comfortable feeling. I am returning again!
